Oh the Miles books are my joint favourite series with Megan's books too.
Kyril Island: The Sophos is a slave part of the book seemed like a different story to the rest of the book, sort of dreamlike, to me. Just like the Kyril Island chapters seemed v. removed from everything. Oh well, I won't insist on it.
A better comparison of The Vor Game was mostly because Gregor=Sophos and Miles=Gen. Gregor fixing lightbulbs happily is sort of like Sophos as a slave. And there's this line when they finally get reunited with the Dendarii and Gregor says "The king returns, huh?" and Miles says "Let that be a lesson to you" and I was totally reminded of Sophos and Gen banter.
